MAGNETOM OPEN VIVA PREFERRED
The MAGNETOM OPEN VIVA PREFERRED integrates all aspects of the
clinical MR exam into an efficient, cost-effective environment.
The system has the same computer platform and software as other
MAGNETOM systems, which allows the OPEN to quickly take
advantage of the latest state-of-the-art imaging techniques. The
system utilizes a magnet, which is open on 3 sides for easy
patient access. Compact design of the entire system allows easy
installation in as little as 325 square feet.
C-Shaped Resistive 0.2T Magnet
The MAGNETOM OPEN has an open C-shaped, 0.2 Tesla magnet, magnet
power supply, and passive shim system. The wide horizontal
opening of the magnet increases patient comfort and allows easy
access to the patient. The water-cooled magnet weighs only 12
metric tons In its operational configuration. The 5 gauss line
extends 8 feet 6 inches in front of the magnet and only 7 feet
10 inches in all other directions, which in many installations
can be constrained within the exam room.
Gradient System
15 mT gradients with a rise time of 900 usec in all three
spatial directions are integrated into the magnet design.
Siemens uses a proprietary design to achieve flat actively
shielded gradient coils, which provide axial, sagittal, coronal,
oblique and double oblique cross-sectional Images of the whole
body. This powerful gradient system allows easy implementation
of new techniques due to its flexibility.
Digital RF System
A digital RF system, operating at 8.25 MHz, features
computer-controlled signal processing to generate arbitrary RF
pulse shapes for accurate slice profiles. The maximum power
output is 2 kW with high frequency stability.
Patient Table
Fully detachable patient table that supports up to 440 lbs.
Optimized RE Coils
Coils are automatically tuned and actively decoupled. Two
receive coils can be connected simultaneously, with scanning
coil simply selected via software in one easy step. The
following coils are included:
 |
Multipurpose Flex Coil 21 S |
Flexible receive coil with 21 cm diameter which
can be used to scan the cervical spine, shoulders and
extremities of patients who do not fit in the standard 16 cm
multipurpose coil.

can be used to scan the cervical spine, shoulders and
extremities of patients.

11 and 16 cm diameters |
Comfort Kit
Positioning devices for stable positioning of patient anatomy
during the MR examination. May enhance patient cooperation
leading to more completed exams and reduce image artifacts due
to patient motion.

Vacuum pump and fittings 3 cushions of Various sizes - cushions
filled with tiny plastic balls which become stationary when air
is evacuated.
Patient Positioning Accessories
There is a light localizer for accurate patient Positioning.
Manually driven patient Table is moveable in 2 directions for
easy patient positioning. Off center positioning is possible for
shoulder imaging, and in some instances when imaging the
extremities or abdomen, the patient head may be outside of the
system for added patient comfort. Other patient comfort
accessories featured by the MAGNETOM OPEN include patient table
pads and positioning cushions, a 2-way patient/operator intercom
and patient emergency call button.
Patient Monitoring Unit and Physiologic Gating
Integrated hardware for synchronizing measurements with ECG,
pulse, or respiratory trigger signals. The signal is displayed
on Diagnostic Main Console.
MAGNETOM Computer System
The TurboSPARC host computer with faster CPU distributes
processes among various system components allowing simultaneous
system control, raw data reconstruction, fast post-processing
and patient data management. Improves system handling,
archiving, documentation and filtering.
SMI Array Processor
A dedicated 48 MByte array processor and RAM Imaging cache,
completely independent of the SMI, performs post-processing
calculations and manipulations including:
 |
Fast paging and CINE display of up to 128

 |
Magnify/Roam |
 |
Maximum Intensity Projections for MRA post
processing. |
 |
Multi-planar Reconstructions: orthogonal
oblique and double oblique reformation of 3D dataset |
On-Line Storage Device
A 2.1GB Winchester Disk Drive is included for storage of NUMARIS
III system software and approximately 9000 images in 256 X 256
format.
Archive Storage Device
The read/write Disk Drive utilizes 1.7 GB 5 ¼” removable media
for archive of approximately 11,000 images (256*256) per disk.
Fully Integrated Diagnostic Main Console
The operators console makes use of a window based mouse-driven
user interface. This streamlined front end utilizes versatile
pop up menus that can be activated anywhere on the screen by
clicking the mouse. The 19’ high- resolution monitor (1024x1024)
displays images and scan parameters, system status, and menus
all in one concise format. Console has 60 freely programmable
function keys, which can be used for fast flexible operation. A
multi-tasking, single console can be used for all scan
operations, filming, archiving, and all post-processing
functions regardless of simultaneous processing already in
progress.
NUMARIS III Software
A complete, general-purpose MRI operating system with the
following special features:
Freely select matrix size (n * 256, where n > 128 in steps of 1
or m * 512 where m > 256 in steps of 1) provides flexibility in
resolution and the ability to reduce scan time. Vari slice gap
and zero slice gap imaging due to crafted RF pulses.
Graphically prescribed oblique and double oblique slice
positioning due to powerful gradient system.
Multiple oblique/multiple angle slice positioning Presaturation
 | up to six regions simultaneously in a
single sequence |
 | presat regions within and outside the FOV |
 | graphic prescription |

Protocols are stored in a clinically oriented, 3 level system
(CORE) with optimized parameters for excellent image quality
every time. Additional protocols can be customized and stored to
meet the users particular needs.
 |
Inversion Recovery
 |
Flexible inversion time (T1=40 ms to 2
seconds) provides maximal contrast and another means for
fat suppression. |
|
Turbo Spin Echo allows acquisition of Proton Density and
T2-weighted spin echo studies at substantially reduced imaging
times relative to conventional spin echo acquisition by
acquiring multiple date lines per TA. Turbo Spin Echo includes
single contrast (T1, T2 or Proton Density) and double contrast
(Proton Density and T2) sequences. Turbo Spin Echo protocols
have been optimized to provide the clinically required number of
slices and familiar spin echo contrast with the shortest exam
times possible in all anatomical areas. Some Turbo Spin Echo
sequences are combined with Gradient Motion Rephased (GMR) to
reduce motion artifacts.
 |
